Hurricane Dorian – Power Outage
Where I live, the effects of Hurricane Dorian in September 2019 were deeply impactful. We faced the full force of the storm as it swept across my region with unprecedented strength.
Firstly, Hurricane Dorian’s arrival brought fierce winds reaching up to 150 km/h (93 mph) and torrential rainfall to affected areas.
This in turn lead to widespread power outages and severe infrastructure damage throughout affected areas. Uprooted and damaged trees blocked roads and damaged homes and vehicles. The storm surge exacerbated coastal flooding, particularly along waterfront areas.
For me, who usually writes from home, the impact of Hurricane Dorian was not just disruptive but also concerning. Power outages severely limited access to necessary blogging resources by affecting communication lines and internet connectivity.
Moreover, the focus shortly before, during and immediately after the storm shifted to a different focus.
This new focus: To ensure personal safety, securing property, and assisting neighbors and community members in need.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, residents of many areas like my own faced challenges such as prolonged power outages lasting several days in some areas.
There was also limited access to essential services, and the daunting task of cleaning up debris and assessing property damage.
The resilience of the community was truly evident as neighbors came together to support each other and local authorities worked tirelessly to restore normalcy.
Given the circumstances of dealing with the aftermath and recovery efforts, I found it impractical to write and publish a blog post this week. The priority was on ensuring personal safety, assisting in community recovery efforts, and coping with the immediate impact of one of the most severe storms I had experienced in recent years.
In other words – Hurricane Dorian – Power Outage – Sorry, no blog this week 🙁
